Here you have a devising/improv opportunity for a male performer to take part in Lizzie Crarer’s The Heroine Project about the life and work of Dorothy Lawrence. Lizzie has secured a small fee with an ACE app pending. I can’t seem to attach it to this, so here are the full details:
The Heroine Project: Dorothy Lawrence
Dates: 26th – 30th August
Call for male performers aged 20 – 35 based in/near Salisbury who:
ü Have strong improvisation/devising skills
ü Enjoy historical research
ü Have an interest in working with community groups
ü Connect with the story in question and want to make it known
The project is about Dorothy Lawrence, who disguised herself as a man and made her way to the frontline of fighting in northern France in 1915. The book she published in 1919 was largely forgotten about, and Dorothy was incarcerated in a psychiatric institution in 1925, where she remained until her death in 1964. The story has a previously unexplored connection with Salisbury, and so we want to make sure that Dorothy is part of the centenary celebrations in this area by making a play about her in Salisbury over the next 12 months.
We are looking for a versatile performer to explore some of the people in Dorothy’s life during a 4-day devising process with a writer, director and the performer playing Dorothy. On the 5th day there will be a community workshop on which the performers will assist.
Depending in the results of the devising week, there is the potential for ongoing involvement with the project.
Fees are a minimum of £80 for the 5 days, plus a small contribution towards travel.
Arts Council Funding has been applied for to pay each artist ITC minimum plus subs for the five days (£358 + £78.75).
Auditions will take place on 29th July between 9:30am and 1pm, in the Community Room at Salisbury Playhouse.
Please send a CV and a covering letter to Lizzie: firstname.lastname@example.org
Deadline: 23rd July
