Nutshells and Scratch

In the interest of nutshells, and because I’m going on holiday next week (yippee) here’s the autumn from a squirrel’s perspective:

Emerging Writers, She Writes and Lymington Playwrights –  writers invited to have their first scene performed in a Scratch Night at Salisbury Playhouse on 4 November.

The Lymington group is embryonic T SP 065_edited-1and welcomes new and aspiring playwrights. Its links with Salisbury Playhouse mean that participants are invited to take part in Playhouse events along with She Writes and the Emerging group.

In response to the success of She Writes on Wednesday mornings, new this term is an Evening She Writes session on Thursdays from 7pm.

Marlborough playwright, John Yates reports:  “OUR SPACE is breaking out. Last year saw a reading at Theatre Bristol‘s Saturday Shorts and performances in Papercut Theatre‘s XY project curated by Melissa Dunne at Theatre503 with Bruce Adams directing. The piece has now been taken up by Ripped Script Theatre Company‘s Laura Jasper. Laura will be directing OUR SPACE for LOST Theatre‘s One Act Festival (showing on Thursday 24th May). She’s then taking it to the Exeter Ignite Festival (3-9 June). Meanwhile Melissa is including OUR SPACE in XY’s Edinburgh Fringe show at Pleasance.”   John is a member of the Emerging Writers Group at Salisbury Playhouse.

New for Playwrights in Lymington

New Series of Monthly Playwriting Workshops  led by Angela Street

These workshops are for playwrights and aspiring playwrights who want to meet other writers, try out new ideas, and develop their skills in a supportive atmosphere. Fun, friendly, informal, sometimes frantic.

Participants will be encouraged to produce professional standard plays suitable for submission to new writing theatres, competitions and theatre companies, as well as to local amateur theatre groups. Writers will be invited to events and opportunities arising at Salisbury Playhouse.

Angela has a MA in Scriptwriting, is an Associate Practitioner at Salisbury Playhouse, where she runs playwriting courses, and is a professional member of The National Association of Writers in Education and The Society of Women Writers and Journalists.

Being a writing course addict, Angela’s course is the best a man can get.  Not only does she give you excellent theoretical knowledge, but also equips you with fabulous solutions to your writing problems.’ Andrew (MA Directing) Warminster
